Abstract Thousands of girls work as Adult/Asian Cam Models (ACMs) in the Philippines under labour conditions that are exploitative, serving an acclaimed 17,000 viewers per day at one site alone. Subject to the influence of digital technology and cultural globalization, ACMs may be construed as trafficked pornographers, exhibitionists, strippers, or as digital prostitutes. Yet we know almost nothing about them or the industry as a whole. This book is part of an initial exploration into the ACM industry in the Philippines . The book explores several issues such as the commoditization of sexuality and of unskilled labour, and the impact that digital technology has had in generating both employment for primarily young female workers and their possible exploitation. It also raises the question of agency and cyber-sex in contrast to popular and political notions that many of these ACMs are trafficked and are prostitutes. It begins with a note about the methodology and an explanation of what ACM-ing is and how it works, and goes on to address the issues of agency and (self) definitions of the ACMs' work.
