Alfredo Roces: A Selfie with Words and Images. The author of this memoir volume, Alfredo Roces, is a prominent name in the history of Philippine art and culture. As a painter, he received his art education from the University of Notre Dame and had taken private classes with Dominador Castaneda in the Philippines and George Grosz in New York. As an author, four of his more than 20 books have received the National Book Awards from the Manila Critics Circle. Roces was a recipient of the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM, in Humanities) award in 1961 and was named a Hall of Fame awardee by the Filipino Australian Artists and Cultural Endeavor Society in 2011. In 2014, Roces was awarded the Pamana ng Pilipino Award by President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacanan Palace.
