The Story of the Street is the story of Mr. Muu's family, a "original" Hanoi family, who made a living trading in the old quarter since the war. During the years of the resistance war, responding to the call for evacuation, Mr. Muu's whole family moved to Dinh Hoa, trading small things to make ends meet, waiting to return to the capital. A few years passed, his wife and youngest child were unfortunately killed by a bomb, Mr. Muu and his three sons and one daughter "dinh te" returned to the city, raising their children alone through two wars. The main events of the novel focus on the life of Mr. Muu's family during the Renovation period, specifically about a decade after 1986. As a genuine trader, quietly knowing the future and avoiding the storms of the times, Mr. Muu could not prevent his children from living in the same house but each behaved differently, unable to have a common voice. Life in the thousand-square-meter villa in Hanoi's Old Quarter passed by day by day, the conflicts between family members became more and more intense when it came to interests.
